As a mom, you’re often pulled in a lot of directions, and your role as a parent only becomes more demanding of your time the more children you have and the more you take on in life. Precious time alone is often sparse, but it’s something that should be fully appreciated and taken advantage of any time you’re lucky enough to have it. With that being said, if you’re looking at how you can best utilize your time, then here are six things to do when you get that alone time as a mom.
Do some self-care
Self-care should always be a priority, but sadly, not everyone prioritises this in their lives, especially new moms and seasoned ones! With self-care, it often feels as though you’re being selfish, but actually, it’s the best thing you can do for others. When you’re spending time on yourself and giving yourself a little pamper or doing something you love, it benefits your mental well-being.
That means you can be in the best state of mind in order to show up for your loved ones. Find things that you enjoy doing and that can be considered a form of self-care. Self-care isn’t just a massage or time in the bathtub. It could be going for a solo meal or reading a book in bed with your favorite beverage.
Try a new hobby or engage in an existing one
A new hobby or engaging with an existing one you’ve not done in a while is a great way to spend some time on yourself. Often, it’s one of those things that takes a back seat because it’s hard enough to do anything for yourself, never mind partaking in a much-loved hobby.
If you’ve got an existing hobby that you’ve not done in a while, find an opportunity to pick it up. The moments that you take for yourself are incredibly important. It’s something that will help you rediscover yourself and who you are beyond just being a mom to your little ones. There are plenty of little moments you can take for yourself. This could be having an hour or so chilling out in bed while you enjoy your morning coffee. It could be taking yourself to a local gym and doing a workout class that gets the blood pumping around your body. If you’re not someone who wants to do anything other than pamper yourself, a trip to the nail or hair salon is also a good shout.
Little moments to yourself can make a big difference to how you feel and look after you. There’s always time for your moments when you’re a parent. Even if it’s to try out a boggle solver or cook your favorite food for lunch.
Practice mindfulness
Mindfulness is always good to practice, especially when it can often feel like time is rushing past you or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Consider where you’re at in life and how mindful you are of your surroundings, who you spend your time with and how appreciative you are of the blessings you have in your life.
Sometimes, we can take all the things that we have in life for granted. Which is why it’s important to try and be more mindful of the those things in life that bring you a lot of joy.
Plan a getaway
There’s nothing better than treating yourself to a getaway, and when you’ve got some time to plan, you should certainly look at planning a getaway somewhere. Whether you’re planning this getaway just for yourself or for you and your family, taking the morning or afternoon when you have some time to yourself is a great opportunity to book your next trip away. That way, you can daydream of being somewhere else!
Connect with friends outside the home
Finally, when it comes to spending time alone with friends, consider connecting with those friends outside of the home. That’s certainly important and something you should actively do in order to give oyurself the opportunity to go out of the home environment, especially if you’re at home a lot.
