This blog post will take you on a journey through some of the most exciting places to visit this summer, whether you’re traveling solo, with family or friends, or embarking on a romantic getaway. Pack your bags, grab your camera, and get ready to explore several unique US travel destinations for summer.

Vail, CO
Vail, Colorado, is best known for its reputation as the beloved winter wonderland for skiers around the country. However, it remains an ideal destination for adventure seekers and nature lovers year-round! During the summer months, visitors can enjoy a plethora of outdoor activities, such as hiking, mountain biking, and river rafting. The charming town also hosts numerous festivals and events throughout the summer, including the Vail Jazz Festival and the Vail Dance Festival. Don’t miss the chance to ride the Eagle Bahn Gondola up to the top of the mountain for stunning views of the surrounding Rockies.
Our boys love riding the ski lifts then we go on a little nature hike at the top of the mountains. We’ve been to Boulder, Denver, and Estes Park. But can’t wait to make it to Vail. Some of my favorite people live in Colorado, so planning a trip to see them on our way to Vail would make this trip even more special.

Cape Cod, MA
Cape Cod, Massachusetts, is a classic summer getaway destination, known for its quaint seaside towns, picturesque lighthouses, and pristine beaches. There’s plenty to see and do in this idyllic region, whether you want to spend your days sunbathing, fishing, or exploring the local art galleries and museums. Be sure to set aside an extra day in your itinerary to visit Provincetown, a vibrant artist community with a lively nightlife scene—and try some of the famous seafood dishes like clam chowder and lobster rolls.
Being from the west coast, we look forward to an extensive Northeastern tour someday, including Cape Cod, Acadia National Park, and the Statue of Liberty.

Sedona, AZ
Sedona, Arizona, may be the perfect summer spot for you if you’re not afraid of a little heat. Sedona is a haven for spiritual seekers and nature enthusiasts, offering breathtaking natural landscapes and mystical energy vortexes. Visitors can go on guided hikes to explore the stunning red rock formations, practice yoga in tranquil settings, or indulge in rejuvenating spa treatments. The town is also home to numerous art galleries and New Age shops, where you can purchase crystals, tarot cards, and other spiritual souvenirs. If you’re looking for a unique US travel destination this summer, Sedona is the place to be!
I’ve been to Phoenix, Flagstaff, and Tucson, but haven’t spent time in Arizona since having kids. I look forward to taking them to the Grand Canyon soon, and booking a trip to Sedona at the same time sounds like a great way to relax and take in the sights of Arizona.

New Orleans, LA
New Orleans, Louisiana, is a city that oozes history, culture, and charm. Summer is the perfect time to visit, with the annual Essence Music Festival and the Satchmo SummerFest bringing the streets to life with music and celebrations. There’s plenty to keep visitors entertained, from exploring the historic French Quarter to indulging in the famous Creole cuisine. Be sure to take a stroll through the Garden District, where you can enjoy viewing beautiful mansions and lush gardens.
After visiting New Orleans several times, it’s easily one of my favorite cities. It’s perfect for a romantic weekend, a bachelorette party, or even a little solo getaway. I can’t wait to head back again.

Bend, OR
Bend, Oregon, is a laid-back town nestled in the heart of the Cascade Mountains. The town is known for its craft breweries and its abundance of hiking and mountain biking trails. Visitors can also go kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing on the nearby Deschutes River. Don’t miss the stunning views from the top of Pilot Butte, a local landmark that offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
Before we were married, we spent a long weekend in Sunriver, just outside of Bend. I’d love the chance to head back to Bend and explore with our kids.

Saint Joseph, MI
St. Joseph, Michigan, may be lesser-known, but its alluring blend of sandy beaches on Lake Michigan, maritime history, family-friendly attractions, and warm community spirit make it a unique travel destination worth exploring. Whether you seek relaxation on the shores of Lake Michigan, a glimpse into the past at the lighthouse, or a joyful experience at the carousel, St. Joseph promises a memorable journey filled with delightful discoveries and cherished moments.
Having grown up in Michigan, this city is very close to my heart. It’s a dream vacation spot in the summertime. We are planning a trip there this summer and can’t wait to return.
As you plan your future adventures, consider veering off the well-trodden path to explore these unique US travel destinations. From spiritual retreats in Sedona to beach escapes in Cape Cod, each destination offers a one-of-a-kind experience that will leave you with unforgettable memories and a deeper appreciation for the diverse beauty of the United States.
